Compagnia’s founders, creators and performers will be in Ticino from 11 to 13 October with one of their biggest international successes, Donka – A Letter to Chekhov, described as “a feast for the eyes” (La Repubblica) and “a riot of magic” (The West Australian).
Daniele Finzi Pasca and all the creators immersed themselves in the writer’s life, poring over his texts and diaries, deciphering notes and jottings, and giving body and shape to his enigmatic silences. The music, by Maria Bonzanigo, evokes the atmosphere of distant Russia and of Chekhov’s stories: accordions, orchestras, choruses, cane thickets, the sound of the wind, skates and birdsong. On stage is an international cast of skilful and eclectic performers who parade a gallery of Chekhovian characters comprising doctors, eternal students, dreamers, bachelors and young women in mourning for life. Hugo Gargiulo’s stage set offers a succession of snapshots of a lost world – the steppes, ice, chandeliers and explosions of colour.
