{"id":718,"date":"2012-03-16T16:17:30","date_gmt":"2012-03-16T14:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/finzipasca.com\/?page_id=718"},"modified":"2022-10-03T13:15:54","modified_gmt":"2022-10-03T11:15:54","slug":"hugo-gargiulo","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/finzipasca.com\/en\/compagnia\/team\/hugo-gargiulo\/","title":{"rendered":"Hugo Gargiulo"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Hugo Gargiulo (Montevideo, Uruguay)<\/strong>, co-founder of Compagnia Finzi Pasca<\/h3>\n<p>Production Designer, actor, writer and director<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/finzipasca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/HUgo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-10761 size-full alignleft\" title=\"Hugo Gargulio\" src=\"https:\/\/finzipasca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/HUgo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"142\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While studying architecture in Montevideo, Hugo begins his theatrical training with maestro Luis Cerminara. He participates in a number of shows in Uruguay and in 1994 he meets Daniele Finzi Pasca and the aesthetics of the \u201cTheatre of the Caress\u201d. He soon moves to Switzerland and is immediately involved in the company Teatro Sunil participating in various shows as actor, director and\/or scenographer: <em>Cos\u00ec si tirava il destino<\/em>, <em>Visitatio<\/em>, <em>Di sogno e volo<\/em>, <em>Cyrano &amp; Bergerac<\/em>, <em>Tres Tristes Tangos<\/em>. In 1998 he marries Maria Bonzanigo with whom he also shares a deep artistic bond.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, together with Antonio Vergamini, Daniele Finzi Pasca, Julie Hamelin Finzi and Maria Bonzanigo, he co-founds Compagnia Finzi Pasca, a new structure uniting the destinies of Teatro Sunil and of Inlevitas. He participates in some of Daniele Finzi Pasca\u2019s large projects like the Cirque du Soleil production <em>Corteo<\/em> (2005) where he is a member of the creative team and Turin Olympic Games <em>Closing Ceremony<\/em> (2006), as part of the directing team.<\/p>\n<p>From 2007 on he particularly develops his role as scenographer by signing his first acrobatic show: <em>Nebbia<\/em>, a coproduction of Cirque Eloize and Teatro Sunil, and then other shows which are on an ongoing international tour: <em>Donka \u2013 A Letter to Chekhov <\/em>(2010), a coproduction of Compagnia Finzi Pasca and the Chekhov International Theatre Festival and the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Vidy \u2013 Lausanne; <em>La Verit\u00e0<\/em> (2013), <em>Bianco su Bianco<\/em> (2014), <em>Per te<\/em> (2016), <em>Luna Park<\/em> (2020), <em>52<\/em> (2021) and <em>Nuda<\/em> (2021)<\/p>\n<p>Among the large events, in 2014 he creates the scenography for the Sochi Olympic Games, both the <em>Closing Ceremony<\/em> and the Paralympic <em>Opening Ceremony<\/em>. In 2017 he is the stage designer for <em>Montr\u00e9al Avudo,<\/em> an outdoor multimedia production for Montreal\u2019s 375<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary (250 000 spectators) and in 2019 he is both scenographer and prop designer for <em>Abrazos<\/em>, an interactive show addressed to families, presented at the fair Feria de Le\u00f3n (Mexico) to an audience of 200,000 spectators. For the 2019 edition of the well-known <em>F\u00eate des Vignerons<\/em> (Winegrowers\u2019 Festival) which takes place once in a generation in Vevey (Switzerland, 375\u2019000 spectators, part of UNESCO\u2019s Intangible Cultural Heritage), he created the scenography and designed a 20,000-spectator arena.<\/p>\n<p>Hugo also participated, as a scenographer, in several lyric productions: he creates some props for the Aida that Daniele directs at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg (Maestro Valery Gergiev, 2011) and he designs the scenography to Ruggero Leoncavallo\u2019s <em>Pagliacci<\/em> (2011 and 2014) and Bizet\u2019s <em>Carmen<\/em> (2015 and 2017),both at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the latter under the conduction of Maestro Zubin Mehta. Hugo is also the scenographer of the opening opera at the Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre in Geneva for the 2019\/2010 season with <em>Einstein on the Beach<\/em> by Philip Glass and Robert Wilson, co-produced by Compagnia Finzi Pasca. In 2021, he designs the scenography for <em>Les Contes d&#8217;Hoffmann<\/em>, also directed by Daniele and produced at the Hamburg Staatsoper under the musical direction of Maestro Kent Nagano.<\/p>\n<p>According to his eclectic spirit, Hugo coordinates various events both in Switzerland and abroad, gives workshops about acting, lectures on scene design (e.g. at <em>Walt Disney Imagineering<\/em> in Los Angeles).
